Wednesday Church Services

We can't yet gather the whole school in church for a weekly service. Instead we will be recording short services which will be played and prayed in each classroom. Some will be audio files. Others like this video can also be viewed at home, both by families who can't yet gather on Wednesdays at the back of church, as well as by members of the wider community.

This year, our Wednesday school services are structured by the saints: heroes and heroines of faith whose examples can inspire and inform us

St Michael's School Service for 16th December 2020: St Lucy

This week we're looking at the life of St Lucy, often celebrated with a festival of light, but whose themes also help us think about the story of Jesus' birth as we approach Christmas.

St Michael's School Service for 9th December 2020: Nelson Mandela

This week's video explores the example of Nelson Mandela as a prophet for social justice and radical change.

This video recalls the life of Alfred Smith, a St Albans chorister who died at Gallipoli in 1915, and explores what this says about war and sacrifice at this time of Remembrance.

St Michael's School Service, 04.11.20

This video tells the story of Rosa Parks, a woman whose actions on a bus helped to change a situation that was racist and unjust, and inspired many others after her.

St Michaels' School Service for 21st October 2020: Mary Jones

This video reflects on Mary Jones who grew up in rural poverty in C18th North Wales and whose quest for her own copy of the Scriptures led to the foundation of the Bible Society.

St Michaels' School Service for 14.10.2020: Guthlac

This video tells the story of Guthlac, a soldier who became a monk. He turned from fighting other people to using prayer as he strove against ‘demons’ – perhaps working on his mental health. There is a song for us to listen to at 8:45 into this video; this can be access from another webpage, see separate link.

Be thou my vision - (with lyrics)

Collective Worship 7.10.20

S Michael's School Service for 30.09.20: St Michael's Day

Continuing our series on saints, with St Michael's Day on 29th September, we look at who Michael is and what he did. As we hear the story of Michael and the dragon, we think about those big themes of good and evil.

St Michaels' School Service for 23.9.2020: Hildegard von Bingen

This video reflects on the life of Hildegard von Bingen, her visions of God and her heavenly music. At 9:25 into this video, I invite you to pause and listen to some of Hildegard's music (see the video below).
